Ingredients:
For the Beef:
1 lb (450g) beef sirloin or tenderloin, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon olive oil
Salt and black pepper to taste
For the Sauce:
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
8 oz (225g) mushrooms, sliced
1 cup beef broth (or stock)
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon paprika (optional for extra flavor)
1 cup sour cream
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (optional for thickening)
For Serving:
Egg noodles, mashed potatoes, or rice
Fresh parsley, chopped (optional garnish)
Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the Beef
Season the beef slices with salt and pepper.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Sear the beef in batches for 1-2 minutes on each side until browned. Remove and set aside.
Step 2: Make the Sauce
In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
Sauté the onions and garlic until softened, about 3 minutes.
Add the mushrooms and cook until tender, about 5 minutes.
Stir in the beef broth, Dijon mustard, and paprika (if using). Bring to a simmer.
Reduce heat and stir in the sour cream. If the sauce is too thin, mix the flour with 2 tablespoons of water and stir it into the sauce to thicken.
Step 3: Combine and Serve
Return the seared beef to the skillet and gently mix it with the sauce. Cook for 2-3 minutes until heated through.
Serve the Beef Stroganoff over egg noodles, mashed potatoes, or rice. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
Tips for the Perfect Stroganoff
Use tender cuts of beef: Sirloin or tenderloin works best for quick cooking.
Don’t overcook the beef: Sear it quickly to retain its tenderness.
Customize the flavor: Add a splash of Worcestershire sauce for depth or a pinch of nutmeg for warmth.
Make it vegetarian: Swap the beef for portobello mushrooms and use vegetable broth.
This easy Beef Stroganoff recipe is a crowd-pleaser and takes just 30 minutes to prepare. Give it a try and enjoy a classic dish that’s both flavorful and satisfying!
